My love for Guatemala is generally apparent to anyone who knows me, but in the case of leading a group of 14 amazingly fun, open-minded, adventurous people, I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I will never forget the rush and feeling of being so alive and literally on top of the world as I crested the top of the volcano crater, the sun hovering just before us in an explosion of warm, pastel colors, Volcan Fuego erupting in plumes of smoke and lava to my left. Hands so cold we scooped hot volcanic rocks into our palms to keep them warm.

Being solo on Lake Atitlan last week was such a meaningful getaway. An early morning swim there is always a renewal for me. Being surrounded by that massive, peaceful, ancient landscape reminds me of how relative everything is.

It always helps me recenter.

It’s adequate to say that it took a pandemic. Packing our bags for our road trip through Mexico, I was an equal combination of terrified and ecstatic. What were we thinking? Had we completely lost our minds? What if the car breaks down? What about Covid? How will our kids manage all this time in the car without AC or technology? Have we not read the news? These were rational questions and I knew that. Yet somehow…

Nine years ago this photo was taken, I was five months pregnant with my first child. I found out I was pregnant barely a year after my husband and I had moved abroad to Panama. At first we struggled about whether we should stay in Panama or just move back to California to have the baby and start our family.

Oh wow - for Luna Zorro to be mentioned in Condé Nast Traveler, nestled within its pages about the saturated beauty of Guatemala, is an honor beyond measure. I am truly proud to see this magical country I call home put in the spotlight in the April 2020 issue of Condé Nast Traveler.

For me, travel brings so much richness and inspiration. My aesthetic senses are heightened because everything is new and different. As a designer and a business owner, I depend on experiencing new environments to evoke ideas and refresh my palette.

A highlight of a recent trip to the gorgeous island of Mallorca, was my visit to the studio workshop of Joan Miró. A homage to his work and career, the studio sits preserved just as he left it (the studio of his dreams), tucked into a lush, arid hillside overlooking the Mediterranean.

During a production meeting a few months back, one of the weavers that I work with, Carlos, shyly handed me an envelope addressed to my family. He nodded at me to open it and when I did, I saw that it was an invitation to his wedding. "Congratulations! You're engaged? This is so exciting!" I cheered in Spanish while I gave him a big hug - probably not the reaction he was used to getting.

After five years of living in Guatemala and many requests from travelers coming through town, I've finally put together a custom map and short guide to my favorite spots in Antigua.

My love for textiles goes all the way back to my childhood. Growing up as a girl, I was surrounded by vintage collections from around the world: pillows, blankets, napkins, decorative wall hangings, table cloths, and picnic blankets from Mexico, India, Hungary, the Middle East, Guatemala, and the United States. These were textiles that had been carefully and thoughtfully accumulated by my great-grandmother, my grand-mother, my great-aunt and my dear mom.

We are very excited to release our latest capsule collection of throw pillows and throw blankets.

Affectionately named after "El Casco Viejo" in Panama, the Casco Collection embodies the warm, neutral, earthy colors that we love right now - dust, rose and mustard, emboldened with cream and black.

In the Spring of 2017 I received an email from Christy Turlington Burns. It was through that initial introduction that I became enthralled with the foundation known as Every Mother Counts (EMC) and Christy quickly evolved from the super model I had known about since I was 10 years old to a genuine, passionate and driven advocate, founder & CEO (not to mention a mother of two).

The last time I was in New York City was in June of 2011. Life was barreling down a much different path and I could not have guessed then how much things would change and evolve over the years. There was not a hint of Luna Zorro on the horizon, no inkling that one day I would partner with Guatemalan artisans or launch my own textile line.
